Human EmotionsDec 02 2021
This project explores Sci-Fi themes and human emotions through Semiotics. I observed a growing detachment and apathy in people towards their sensations today, prompting me to imagine how future societies might evolve.
I envisioned a future where emotions have faded, akin to the emotionless beings depicted in the alien Heptapod language from the film Arrival. To bridge this emotional gap, I adapted the dynamic qualities of this fictional language, infusing it with motion and sound. Drawing from linguistic nuances like tonal variations in Chinese and Latin scripts, I introduced distinctive tonal marks to differentiate expressions like ‘yes’ and ‘no’. These tonal markers, reminiscent of emotive speech patterns, imbue the Logograms with emotional depth and aid in conveying nuanced feelings. The project includes a video and guidebook designed to reignite emotion in dispassionate future generations, using these innovative Logograms as a pathway to reconnect with their humanity.
