Net-uralisationJan 25 2022
The goldfish symbolises what I call “stupid influencers” in a condensed form. These figures grow in prominence but inevitably meet an explosive end. We unwittingly consume numerous such videos daily, struggling to find any that truly leave a lasting impression. In the video, goldfish are ensnared within a blend of network symbols and fishing net imagery. As the camera zooms out, the scene reveals an array of outdated technology like LCD and old screens, alongside smartphones, all flickering to the backdrop of various TikTok tunes.
The term “Neturalisation” is a play on “naturalisation,” signifying the acceptance of cultural phenomena as inherently normal. By altering “nat” in “naturalisation” to “net,” I aimed to wryly comment on how people on platforms like TikTok engage in seemingly mindless behaviours taken for granted. By the video’s conclusion, I aim to leave viewers questioning whether they, too, are among those incessantly swiping up their screens.
